A friend of mine in the law faculty at Aberdeen, who was - is - more eccentric than most lawyers, stood up on his chair in the refectory, demanded silence and said, a propos of nothing, 'Ladies and gentlemen, if I may, I'd like to say a few words about Admiral Tirpitz and the distant but ever-building thunderclouds of war...' - and sat down again to resume his meal.
