Katie May

When Richard Branson ditched in the Irish Sea off Rathlin Island in the summer of 1987, after his record-breaking trans-Atlantic balloon crossing with Per Linstrand, he was rescued by local ferryman Tommy Cecil.

By way of thanks, Branson donated £25,000 and an inshore lifeboat to the people of Rathlin - and this is the very boat, twenty years on and after considerable modification, fishing in Strangford Lough. Katie May goes by the cabin most days, and from time to time her present owner, Paul Campbell, leaves us a few clams as he passes.
