We get a kick out of sharing the island experience with friends from Scotland. When we lived in a farmhouse half an hour from Edinburgh, friends would come for dinner: now they tend to make a trip of it, spending a few nights in the cabin, so we manage quality time. For Douglas and Andy, Islandmore was the last stopover on a week-long circuit of Ireland – the only (typically) dry stopover – and if you look closely you’ll understand why they hadn’t been able to dry out since leaving Scotland: the extra padding is for protection, not floatation, and the logo doesn’t say Helly Hanson but Hein Gericke.
