We have been off-island a fair amount recently. Eddie comes with us of course, and I have to say he's the most adaptable, long-suffering and decent traveling companion - he can't always go everywhere with us (pending, for example, British restaurants catching up with French...) but he's happy to sit on his personal platform in the back of the car and watch the world, especially the canine world, go by.
