Every shepherd tells his tale

'..every shepherd tells his tale
Under the hawthorn in the dale.'
Milton, L'Allegro (1645)

Old and thinning hawthorn hedges are one of Islandmore's distinguishing features - that, and the drumlined forms of the island itself (a relic of the last ice age). The bloom this year has been spectacular - from the top of Eagle Hill it's as though someone has scored from shore to shore with intersecting lines of white chalk.

Unsurprisingly, the hawthorns are a recurring motif in Lynn's work. Last Hawthorn (below) is a favourite - it went to a collector friend in Fife and in fact couldn't have gone to a better home.
